麦肯锡(McKinsey and Company)的合作伙伴和教育主管莫娜·莫希德(MonaMours.)认为，教育机构太过关注让东伦敦大学的大学生进入校门，以至于他们忽视了如何让年轻人在今天严峻的劳动力市场中取得成功。

Australia’s major research funding body, the National Health and Medical Research Council, has announced it will support unusual or ‘transformative’ research ideas.
In an announcement on its website the council says a common criticism of government funding agencies around the world is that their peer reviewers are conservative, “tending to support the next logical step in a research programme and sometimes miss new ideas and approaches that are potentially transformative or go against current thinking in the field”.
”Of course, it is important that we support both types of proposals,” the council statement says.
“The development of ideas and work over years that contribute to deeper understanding and breakthroughs but also research that can be truly novel and transform our understanding or lead to radically different approaches.
”Unlike most other agencies, the NHMRC says it has long included ‘innovation’ as a selection criterion for its project grants and has deliberately encouraged it with a large one-line grant mainly awarded on the record of achievement of the team rather than an exact programme of work in detail.
”It is understandable that when success rates are low, peer review panels face agonising decisions on ranking of applications.
Panel members comment that it is difficult to consider a really ‘left of field’ grant that if it comes off (sometimes a big ‘if’) would be hugely important, compared to an excellent line of research yielding important results that has been pursued over many years.
”In Australia, however, we need to confront the example of professors Barry Marshall and Robin Warren whose work was eventually judged by the most rigorous peer review panel in the world to be worthy of the highest prize in health and medical research, the Nobel Prize for Physiology or Medicine [for the discovery of the bacterium Helicobacter pylori and its role in gastritis and peptic ulcer disease].
“In contrast, NHMRC peer review panels did not support funding this research.
It’s truly a sobering example of how truly novel ideas can struggle in science.
So, from this year, NHMRC grant review panels will be asked to not only continue to score innovativeness as a criterion but also to identify a small number of potentially transformative research ideas.
” The council says applications will be considered by a sub-committee of the research committee and one or a small number will be awarded a ‘Marshall and Warren Award’.
In an interview with The Australian newspaper, Marshall welcomed the new research award but said it might be difficult to award every year.
“It’s a fantastic, original idea and I hope that it’s a success but… in some years there just wouldn’t be an idea out of left field and novel enough – but scientifically valid – to get up even in that category,” he said.
It took Marshall and Warren years for their research to be acknowledged that ulcers were caused by bacteria, not stress.
Marshall famously proved the claims by drinking a glass of bacteria which gave him an ulcer but showed the research findings were correct.
