A savings scheme for higher education, aimed at encouraging South Africans to save money for post-school education, has been launched by Minister of Education Naledi Pandor.
The Fundisa Fund aims to tackle both the country’s shills shortage and the notorious inability of its citizens to save money, reports AllAfrica.

Anyone with a bank account who wants to save for their child’s (or anybody else’s education) will be able to go to the bank or Post Office and open a Fundisa account with as little as R40 (US$6) a month or a maximum of R200 a month.
Pandor said many poor families spent that amount or more on cell phones or beer.
